Geoarchaeology of the English Channel Pro. Martin Bates

Martin expertise lies in the fields of geoarchaeology, particularly the application of geotechnical and geophysical surveys to archaeological problems. 

His research interests lie within the fields of geoarchaeology and Quaternary Science.  His main research centres around marine and shallow marine environments (including submerged landscapes) of the English Channel and Orkney. He is interested in the human occupation of these areas during the last 1 million years and the ways in which we can locate and investigate such records both on-shore and off-shore.  Also active in the fields of investigating methods for investigating deeply buried archaeologies through geophysical and geotechnical investigation.
